Concepts and Activities
Join us during maple season at the Arboretum and celebrate the sweet signs of spring! Discover how trees make sugar and why late winter in Minnesota is the perfect time for sap to flow.
- Travel through time to explore maple sugaring traditions, highlighting Indigenous knowledge and the many ways people continue to harvest and enjoy maple today.
- Tap into the science of sweetness as you explore how photosynthesis leads to maple syrup — from tree to taste — and learn how to identify the trees that make it all possible.
- Step into the sugarbush for a hands-on outdoor experience, including tree tapping and a short woodland hike to identify tappable trees.
- Visit the sugarhouse to see how sap is transformed into syrup, learn just how much it takes to make that golden sweetness—and enjoy a taste of both sap and syrup!
