Hanging in a well-lit window, suncatchers add a touch of beauty to any home. Join glass artist/instructor Gerie Thelen as she guides you through the steps of creating your own dazzling work of art. Beginning with a brief introduction into her background and the steps of creating fused glass, you will get hands-on experience working on your art from concept and design through completion.
In this class you will:
- Learn a brief history of glass.
- Discover the many techniques that are used to create art with glass.
- Create your own colorful sun catcher to hang in your window or give as a gift.
Supplies: Everything you need will be provided for you in this class.
Please Note: Instructor will be firing all glass suncatchers created by students in class and the finished suncatchers will be available for pick-up at the Bee Center Information booth. Please return to the Farm at the Arb to retrieve them between Feb. 20-March 13.
Instructor: Everyone has a story to tell and each of our stories is important. For Gerie Thelen, her story does not come out in words, but through the glass she creates. Her work includes functional art, sculptures, and installations.
We recommend that you enter the Arboretum via the back gate on 82nd St, not the main entrance on Hwy 5. This is the most direct route to access the Farm at the Arb, and avoids potential delays when driving through the Arboretum.

If you do wish to enter through the main Arboretum gate on Hwy 5, you can take 3-Mile Drive through the Arboretum and turn right on Peter Moe Drive to get to the Bee Center (this route may take an additional 15-20 minutes, so please plan accordingly). Note: in winter months 3-mile Drive may be closed, please check before arrival.
Main Entry instructions:
You will receive a bar-code ticket for entry to the Arboretum in your email purchase confirmation. Your ticket is valid for entry on the day of your class. Present your ticket to the gate attendant as you enter the Arboretum. You may stay at the Arboretum after class as long as you want during our operating hours.
