Winter Lights 2021

Our popular Winter Lights display returns as a walking tour for 2021. As in years past, we’re extending our hours so visitors can enjoy the Arboretum’s gardens filled with lights.  

Tickets go on sale to Arboretum members on Nov. 1. Members, watch your inbox for an email with links to buy tickets, which will be sent at 9 a.m. Nov. 1. (Not a member? Learn more about Arboretum membership to get early access to Winter Lights and other perks!) 

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Nov. 5.

In addition to our general admission nights, we’re also offering special event nights: Opening Night on Nov. 18, Photography Nights on Dec. 1 & 8, Family Nights on Dec. 2 & 9, Date Night on Dec. 16 and New Year’s Eve Party on Dec. 31.

General Admission

5-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 5-10 p.m. Friday-Sunday;

Get outside and enjoy the crisp, fresh air of a winter evening, as you experience 16 outdoor light displays, featuring flowers, nature and winter fun, on an accessible, stroller-friendly walk that’s just over a half-mile. Warm up midway through the walking tour at a bonfire and roast marshmallows over the fire -- s’mores packages will be for sale. Artist Jennifer Hedberg’s luminescent ice sculptures will also be part of the display. Embrace all that a Minnesota winter has to offer -- dress for the weather!

Want to avoid driving to and parking at the Arboretum? Buy your Winter Lights tickets with the Southwest Transit Bus Option on Friday, Saturday and Sunday general admission nights. There is no additional charge to take the bus -- your bus ride is included with your regular Winter Lights Ticket admission price.  Click on the Southwest Transit Bus Option below, and park at the Southwest Transit East Creek Transit Station (2120 Chestnut St. N., Chaska). Buses will run on Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 10 p.m., with the first bus leaving the station at 4:45 p.m.

$10 for members, $15 for non-members, free for children ages 15 and younger.

(Note: If your preferred time or date is sold out for driving directly to the Arboretum, it might still be available if you’re willing to take the bus -- and vice versa.)

Special Event Nights

Opening Night
6-9 p.m. Nov. 18

Join in the fun as we light up the Arb with Winter Lights. Lighting ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m.  Stay to enjoy cookies and hot cocoa while you get the first look at the 2021 show. Enjoy live music from the Holiday Heralds.

Cost:  $10 for members and children, $25 for non-members and free for infants younger than 1 year.

Photography Night
4:30-6:30 or 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 1 & 8

The Arboretum's mesmerizing Winter Lights display, normally closed on Wednesday evenings, will be opened only for photographers.

Cost:  $25 for members and $40 for non-members.

Family Night
4-6 p.m. and 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 2 & 9

This family-friendly evening includes complimentary hot cocoa, cookies and crafts.

Cost:  $10 for members and children, $25 for non-members and free for infants younger than 1 year.

Date Night
5-10 p.m. Dec. 16

Costa Rica Ballroom

Bring your date to Winter Lights, and stroll through the lights with an adults-only crowd. Take a dance class from Costa Rica Ballroom, and enjoy live music. Event price includes one drink ticket.

Cost:  $20 members and $35 non-members (adults only)

New Year’s Eve Party

Traveled Ground

Bring the whole family to bid farewell to 2021 at the Arboretum. Stroll through the Winter Lights display from 5-10:30 p.m., play family-friendly games, make luminaries and share your wishes for the new year, commemorate the night at a photo booth, enjoy live music from Traveled Ground from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., and celebrate the coming year with countdowns at 8 p.m., 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. The final 10 p.m. countdown will include a sparkling apple juice toast, and all guests will take home party favors.

Cost:  $5 for children, $15 for members and $30 for non-members
