Special Access for Ages 6 to Adult: Honey Bee Hive Inspection

Instructor: Ping Honzay, Beekeeper at the Tashjian Bee and Pollinator Discovery Center

Get special access for an up-close look at the inner workings of a honey bee hive by joining in on an inspection of one of the hives at the Arboretum’s Tashjian Bee and Pollinator Discovery Center. You’ll put on a beekeeping suit, join beekeeper Ping as she opens a hive, and even have a chance to hold a frame of live honey bees. Along the way you’ll learn more about the life of a hive and how we work with these fascinating creatures.

Notes:

• Anyone (adult or child) putting on a beekeeping suit to come outside by the hives must register individually. Adults who are just accompanying children may watch the class from inside through the building viewing windows; in this case they do not need to register themselves.
• This class is weather dependent: in the case of inclement weather, participants will be notified and issued a refund.
• Attendees must wear closed toe shoes (beekeeping suits will cover your whole body, except for your feet).
