$160 member/$200 non-member, includes Arboretum admission and after hours access for both sessions.

*Due to the after-hours access, the Main Arboretum gate will be LOCKED. Participants must enter through the Arboretum's FARM gate entrance off 82nd street.

Class Overview:
Dusk and dawn are truly special times for photography, and the Arboretum grounds are the best place around to capture the beauty of sunrise and sunset! Join instructor Don Tredinnick for this amazing, after AND before-hours opportunity to photograph the Arboretum in light not seen during our open hours! You will learn pro tips with your classmates as you are immersed in the late summer glory of the Arboretum.
In this field practice-based program, you will learn:
Friday:
- Learn the importance of light to your photography
- Practice framing techniques for capturing the sunset
- Receive pro tips for difficult exposures
- Learn Don’s best locations to photograph the Arboretum grounds amidst the breathtaking light of sunset
Saturday:
- Receive exclusive, pre-dawn access to the Arboretum grounds where you will photograph the best views of the Arboretum at sunrise!
- Learn tips for the technical challenge of bright sun and low light
- Share the moment with fellow photographers
Please note: Class will take place rain or shine; please dress for the weather. This event will require brief walks off our paved paths and up slope.
Required Supplies/Equipment to bring:
- DSLR or mirrorless camera
- Owner’s manual
- Wide angle prime or zoom lens
- Tripod
- Small flashlight
- Various other lenses (optional)
- Portable dinner, snacks or drinks to be eaten on-the-go
- Notebook and pencil for note taking on-the-go
Instructor:
Don Tredinnick professional nature photographer, instructor and owner of Frozen Hiker Photography. He was introduced to photography by his grandfather, who gave him his first camera at about age 7 and sparked a lifelong passion for the craft. After carrying a Kodak Instamatic everywhere as a child, he took the next step in college when a friend helped him purchase his first SLR, a Nikon EM with a 50mm lens, beginning a decades-long commitment to Nikon equipment. His photographic interests include landscapes, wildlife, classic cars, and abandoned buildings and machinery. He has traveled extensively in pursuit of compelling images, with recent destinations including Africa, Antarctica, Borneo, Iceland, Alaska, the Galápagos Islands and numerous national parks. His work has been published in magazines, books and marketing materials, and he has exhibited in multiple juried shows.
We recommend that you enter the Arboretum via the back gate on 82nd St, for BOTH days, not the main entrance on Hwy 5. This is the most direct route to access the Farm at the Arb, and avoids potential delays when driving through the Arboretum.
Special Access on Saturday: The Main Arboretum gate will be LOCKED on Saturday morning. Participants must enter through the Arboretum's FARM gate entrance off 82nd street. More details and directions will be sent in a reminder email a few days prior to class.

Friday only: If you do wish to enter through the main Arboretum gate on Hwy 5, you can take 3-Mile Drive through the Arboretum and turn right on Peter Moe Drive to get to the Myers Education Center (this route may take an additional 15-20 minutes, so please plan accordingly).
Main Entry instructions:
You will receive a bar-code ticket for entry to the Arboretum in your email purchase confirmation. Your ticket is valid for entry on the day of your class. Present your ticket to the gate attendant as you enter the Arboretum. You may stay at the Arboretum after class as long as you want during our operating hours.
