Nature Journaling: A Mindful Writing Workshop to Explore Outer and Inner Nature

This is part of the Arboretum's Nature-Based Therapeutics Onsite Programming

Take a pause from winter as you experience the warmth and beauty of the Meyer-Deats Conservatory, and then reflect on personal observations through journaling and creative writing including prose and poetry. Strengthen awareness of self and sensitivity to nature, to both the outer natural world and our personal “inner nature” through mindful observation and creative reflective writing. Brief mindfulness exercises will be offered in this class as writing prep to enhance the experience. This experience focuses more on writing; sketching to enhance your writing is optional. Appropriate for all levels of experience. 

In this class you will:

• Discover insight into one’s self through connection to nature observation and reflection grounded in writing.
• Encourage and enhance your caring relationship with the natural world, its flora and fauna and their eco systems.
• Develop mindful observational and writing skills.
• Explore emergent insights and emotions; to honor awe and welcome calm.

Helpful tips 

• The Arboretum is a public place; solitude from other visitors is not expected nor guaranteed.
• Bring a water bottle, and please refrain from eating or chewing gum.
• This is a tech-free experience.
