Using nature as your inspiration, create your own beautiful mosaic pictures or patterns using broken stained glass and glass blocks. The finished piece can be lit up naturally or illuminated internally. The first known mosaic art was found in a Mesopotamian temple dating back to 3,000 BC. Learn these traditional techniques while employing modern technology to create a finished mosaic keepsake.
In this class you will:
- Watch demonstrations by the instructor and get one-on-one guidance as you learn the techniques.
- Learn about color and composition in your artwork, and apply this knowledge as you design your own mosaic image.
- Create your piece of art from your original design, as you adhere broken stained glass to the block, learn how to adhere grout to your mosaic design, and finish with grout sealer for a polished look.
- Learn a new technique to color your grout.
- Leave with your near-finished artwork, and a new enthusiasm for stained glass mosaic!
Supplies/Equipment: This class provides each student with all the materials needed to create a 8”W x 8”H x 3”D stained glass mosaic block.
Instructor Bio:
Wendy Andersen is an award-winning stained glass mosaic and multimedia artist who loves seeing the ah-ha moments in her work — and on her students' faces. Working as an at-risk inner-city school teacher for about 20 years, she enjoys bringing her enthusiasm for teaching into her stained-glass classroom and into her daily life! Wendy also works as an Integrative CST Therapist and Master Integrative Health Coach for people, equine and canines! She is also a volunteer Police Chaplain in Hopkins, and enjoys the outdoors in all its forms.
We recommend that you enter the Arboretum via the back gate on 82nd St, not the main entrance on Hwy 5. This is the most direct route to access the Farm at the Arb, and avoids potential delays when driving through the Arboretum.

If you do wish to enter through the main Arboretum gate on Hwy 5, you can take 3-Mile Drive through the Arboretum and turn right on Peter Moe Drive to get to the Bee Center (this route may take an additional 15-20 minutes, so please plan accordingly).
Main Entry instructions:
You will receive a bar-code ticket for entry to the Arboretum in your email purchase confirmation. Your ticket is valid for entry on the day of your class. Present your ticket to the gate attendant as you enter the Arboretum. You may stay at the Arboretum after class as long as you want during our operating hours.
