Kokedama means “moss ball” and is a Japanese art form where a plant’s root system is wrapped in soil and moss, and then bound with a string. Come join Susan Snegosky at the Arboretum for this fun workshop where you will learn how to create your own plant display using this traditional Japanese technique. Using plants propagated at the Arboretum, Susan will take you through the steps of creating your own Kokedama, which can then be hung by string or displayed on a decorative plate.

In this class you will learn:

  • How to select the right plants for Kokedama.
  • Get hands on experience preparing the soil and moss.
  • Practice how to form the ball of soil and then wrap it with moss.
  • How to care for your Kokedama!

Supplies: All supplies will be provided and you will go home with your own Kokedama!

Main Entry instructions:
You will receive a bar-code ticket for entry to the Arboretum in your email purchase confirmation. Your ticket is valid for entry on the day of your class. Present your ticket to the gate attendant as you enter the Arboretum. You may stay at the Arboretum after class as long as you want during our operating hours.
