Want to enjoy the beauty of houseplants but aren't sure where to begin — or why your leafy companions don't always thrive? Join Mark Eaton, owner of Roots, Shoots & Leaves mobile retail shop in this practical, beginner-friendly class to give you the knowledge and confidence to grow healthy houseplants in your own home. Learn how to choose plants that fit your lifestyle and environment, understand their basic care needs and recognize common problems before they become major setbacks. Whether you're caring for your very first pothos or looking to strengthen your plant-care skills, you'll leave with practical tools to help your houseplants move from simply surviving to truly thriving.
In this class you will learn:
- How to select the right houseplants based on your home's light conditions, space and lifestyle
- The fundamentals of watering, including how to recognize signs of overwatering and underwatering
- How to assess and work with different types of indoor light
- How to identify and manage common houseplant pests
- Tips for troubleshooting issues such as yellowing leaves, wilting, leaf drop and slow growth
- Which popular houseplants are best suited for beginners and various home environments

Instructor Bio:
Mark Eaton is the owner of Roots, Shoots & Leaves, a mobile houseplant and garden shop serving the Twin Cities. The shop carries a wide variety of live tropical houseplants, succulents, cacti and accessories for the houseplant hobby. Mark holds a degree in wildlife, fish and wildlands science and management from the University of Minnesota and has an extensive background as a research scientist. His goal is to help make you the best plant parent you can be.
We recommend that you enter the Arboretum via the back gate on 82nd St, not the main entrance on Hwy 5. This is the most direct route to access the Farm at the Arb, and avoids potential delays when driving through the Arboretum.

If you do wish to enter through the main Arboretum gate on Hwy 5, you can take 3-Mile Drive through the Arboretum and turn right on Peter Moe Drive to get to the Bee Center (this route may take an additional 15-20 minutes, so please plan accordingly).
Main Entry instructions:
You will receive a bar-code ticket for entry to the Arboretum in your email purchase confirmation. Your ticket is valid for entry on the day of your class. Present your ticket to the gate attendant as you enter the Arboretum. You may stay at the Arboretum after class as long as you want during our operating hours.
