Kernza® Harvest Day

Kernza plot with signage

The future of agriculture is growing here at the Farm at the Arb. Join us for a hands-on celebration of Kernza®, a remarkable perennial grain developed right here in Minnesota. Unlike conventional wheat that must be replanted and tilled up every year, Kernza® grows back season after season. Its deep and fibrous roots can reach 10 feet underground, building healthier soil and cleaner water. It’s a grain that is good for the land and your plate.

  • Roll up your sleeves and join the harvest. Join Minnesota farmers in the field as we harvest Kernza®, the world’s first commercially available perennial grain.
  • Taste the future in our kitchen. Sample this remarkable grain up close and discover what a more sustainable future might taste like.
  • Explore the Tashjian Bee and Pollinator Discovery Center. Investigate the science behind our local pollinators and enjoy a unique honey tasting experience.
  • Visit our Activity Stations for a take-home craft and a fascinating STEM activity the whole family will enjoy.
  • Paint with soil. Join University of Minnesota graduate students as they paint with soil from across the state.
  • Play on the lawn. Wrap up your visit with lawn games like cornhole, pickleball and more.
