PeaPods is designed for children ages 3-5 years old together with an adult.

Pea Pods for Preschoolers provides the opportunity for you and your special little one to be enchanted by the world of plants. Discover what all plants need to survive and thrive, and put on your gardening gloves to help plant veggies, flowers and herbs to enjoy all summer long. Spark your child’s appreciation for nature’s beauty through planting, art, sensory activities, science discovery, and adventures in the Green Play Yard and Children’s Garden. Come play, grow and learn!

Here are a few things to note:

  • Adults should plan to attend with their child.
  • Siblings who participate should also be registered at the regular fee.
  • Sessions are held primarily outdoors. Please plan ahead and dress for the weather. Indoor space will be available in case of inclement weather.

Arboretum entry instructions

You will receive a bar-code ticket for entry to the Arboretum in your email purchase confirmation. Your ticket is valid for entry on the day of your class for one child and one accompanying adult. Present your ticket to the gate attendant as you enter the Arboretum. You may stay at the Arboretum after class as long as you want during our operating hours.

No, Adults should plan to attend with their child.

Recommended ratio of adult to child is 1:1. One adult may attend with 2 children, but both children must stay with the adult at all times. Each participating child needs their own registration.

  • Siblings who participate should also be registered at the regular fee.
  • Non-participating siblings who will not use any of the supplies nor participate in any of the activities may attend without registering as long as they are not a distraction to the group. Non-registered, non-participating siblings do need a gate ticket to enter the Arboretum).

All sessions will be held primarily outdoors. Please plan ahead for sun, bugs, or light rain. Indoor space will be available in case of inclement weather.

Snacks are not provided as part of the program. You are welcome to bring your own snacks as desired, or even pack a picnic to enjoy on the Arboretum grounds after the program. There is a water fountain in the building. The Arboretum Eatery, located in the Visitor Center, has food and drink available for purchase before or after the program.
