Class Overview: 

Discover the creative possibilities of abstract photography by learning how to transform everyday landscapes into expressive, abstract images. In this hands-on class led by professional photographer Cameron Williams, you will explore techniques for creating abstract photographs almost entirely in-camera through intentional movement, creative composition and the use of light.

Designed to encourage experimentation and build confidence, this class will help you become more comfortable with your camera settings in a fun, approachable way. Working in low-light conditions during an evening session or on a cloudy day, you’ll explore how movement, exposure  and timing can create unique and unexpected photographic results.

  • Learn the basics of abstract photography and creative image-making
  • Explore camera settings for low-light and experimental photography
  • Practice different intentional camera movement techniques
  • See examples of abstract landscape photography and creative approaches

Cameron Williams is a fine art nature photographer based in Minnesota. He is the founder of Striped Moon Studios whose work focuses on beautifully blending the serenity of nature with the intrigue of abstraction. His landscape photography captures the quiet majesty of the natural world — from sweeping cliffs and rugged coastlines to serene forests and mist-covered mountains. In addition to his stunning landscapes, Cameron’s abstract photography explores the interplay between natural forms and the unexpected patterns that emerge within them. By focusing on elements like water, shadows and the subtle shifts in the environment, he transforms everyday outdoor scenes into thought-provoking, emotive art.

Arboretum entry instructions


We recommend that you enter the Arboretum via the back gate on 82nd St, not the main entrance on Hwy 5. This is the most direct route to access the Farm at the Arb, and avoids potential delays when driving through the Arboretum.

If you do wish to enter through the main Arboretum gate on Hwy 5, you can take 3-Mile Drive through the Arboretum and turn right on Peter Moe Drive to get to the Bee Center (this route may take an additional 15-20 minutes, so please plan accordingly). 

Main Entry instructions:
You will receive a bar-code ticket for entry to the Arboretum in your email purchase confirmation. Your ticket is valid for entry on the day of your class. Present your ticket to the gate attendant as you enter the Arboretum. You may stay at the Arboretum after class as long as you want during our operating hours.
