Books in Bloom

Seed keeper book

Visit the Andersen Horticultural Library to see their Book in Bloom display May 7-11, 2024. See how Horticulturist Audrey Busch, and Andersen Horticultural Library staff reimagined the book The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson into a blooming display.

The container chosen for this project represents the special place where some seeds were kept. A hidden, safe place buried in the earth. Circular, deep, and able to hold...as a person would hold a baby in their arms. Seeds and children have so much in common with unknown life hidden within and waiting to unfold. Also in the display is a card catalog, filled with seeds. The Anderson Horticulture Library (like a sister!) at the MN Landscape Arboretum has an extensive collection of historical and rare seed catalogs. These are a reflection of our past and a peek into florals and foods popular over the last several decades. Children and seeds have a value that speaks to our future. Not just theirs or ours, but for generations to come. May we learn and grow and face challenges together with hope and remembrance.

The florals were chosen to reflect the book cover style and vibrant colors.

They include Feather Willow Eucalyptus, Yellow Yarrow, Orange Mini Carnations, Alstroemeria, Red Gerbera Daisy, Lavender Mini Carnations, Yellow Statice, Blue Waxflower, Pink Ranunculus, Red Hypericum, Blue Pom Daisy, Fantail Willow, and assorted greens.
