Arboretum Culinary Manager

Chef Beth Fisher is the Arboretum's culinary programmer and instructor. She has an extensive culinary background including an instructor at Kitchen Window and other various culinary schools in the Twin Cities metro area. Many people know Beth from her work at Lucia's, Wise Acre Eatery, Thirty Bales, Rustica, French Meadow and Kruse Markit. Beth is thrilled to be developing cooking classes for visitors at the Arboretum's new Myers Center, which has a state-of-the-art kitchen classroom.

*Note: As currency exchanges and fluctuations vary, this is an approximate cost, which Knowmad reserves the right to adjust. This land-cost price is based on a group size of 16 travelers. Knowmad reserves the right to adjust this price in order to accommodate fewer registrants should there be less than 16. Trip size is capped at 23 plus the tour leader.

Oct. 6 | Travel to Buenos Aires

Fly overnight from MSP to Buenos Aires. 

Oct. 7 | Buenos Aires

Arriving in Buenos Aires, your Knowmad guide will meet you and accompany you to your hotel in the historic Recoleta neighborhood.

Later, you will enjoy a welcome dinner, toast your arrival and learn more about the adventure to come.

Oct. 8 | Buenos Aires

Enjoy a guided half-day exploration of Buenos Aires. You will travel through the narrow streets of the old city, as well as the broad venues that mark the city's modern growth. Soak in the classical architecture, beautiful plazas and colorful culture of this famed city. You will see the Obelisco, Cathedral, ornate government buildings, Plaza de Mayo and the Casa Rosada. 

La Boca is a colorful and artsy neighborhood. Stop at a well known restaurant for lunch. Explore the green areas of Palermo. Visit El Rosedal, a historic 10-acre garden with more than 18,000 rose bushes. The Botanic Garden of Carlos Thay features more than 5,500 plant species. The Recoleta district includes the most opulent cemetery in South America.

Oct 9 | El Ombů de Areco

We will drive two hours to the countryside. Explore a wheat plantation and learn about crop production in this region of Argentina. Visit El Ombů de Areco, a historic estancia. Ride horses, bicycles or carriages, stroll through gardens and enjoy a traditional Argentine asado and fine wines.

Oct. 10 | Buenos Aires to Bariloche

Transfer with your Knowmad guide to the airport. In Bariloche, transfer with your Knowmad guide to your hotel, enjoying a briefing of the town along the way. In the afternoon, enjoy Bariloche a la Carta, the city's renowned gastronomic festival, with your Knowmad guide. Learn about the cuisine of Patagonia as you taste some of the emblematic flavors of Bariloche from local food trucks.

Oct 11 | Bariloche

Visit La Usina de Nativas Nursery, a native plant production center for Nanhuel Huapi National Park. A founder of the nursery will lead the tour. Learn about the many native species and successes and challenges of the Andean Patagonia forest restoration. Enjoy lunch at a local farm-to-table restaurant. Explore the Arrayanes Train in the Municipal Park of Llao Llao and other important gardens in the city. Drink a mate and learn about the cultural importance of this plant and drink.

Oct 12 | Bariloche

In the morning, head south to the rural sector of El Bolson. Enter the Mailin Ahogado valley to visit Granja Biodinamica La Paciencia for an immersive farm experience. Learn about daily life on the farm and the relationship between the farmers, plants, animals and soil. Enjoy a nature walk along the farm's trails, observing the stream and native forest. Enjoy lunch made from ingredients from this farm, as well as the surrounding region.

Oct 13 | Bariloche - Mendoza

Oct. 14 | Valle de Uco

Explore three wineries in the beautiful Valle de Uco. Each has its own personality, experience to offer and wine varietals. Get an in-depth lesson on growing grapes in the local terroir, the wine making process and the grapes themselves. The tastings will include Malbec, Argentina's highly celebrated varietal, and includes lunch on site.

Oct 15 | Mendoza

Visit the area of Maipŭ, home to hundreds of vineyards and olive groves, to learn about olives. Explore an olive oil factory to learn about different production processes and connect with the rich family history of the business. Visit an olive plantation to learn about sustainable cultivation and soil management techniques. Enjoy a farewell lunch at a premium winery before returning to your hotel to enjoy the afternoon at your leisure.

Oct. 16-17 | Mendoza - Buenos Aires - MSP

Transfer with your Knowmad guide to the airport in Mendoza. In Buenos Aires, your guide will accompany you from the regional airport to the international airport for your overnight flight home.
