Upcoming Full Moon Hikes
Full Pink Moon Hike: 8-10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23
Enjoy a self-guided evening hike at the Arboretum while basking in the glow of the Full Pink Moon. April’s full moon is named for the pink moss phlox that begins to bloom in April in other parts of the county – though moss phlox typically blooms in May in Minnesota. In honor of the pink moon, a 0.75-mile hiking path around Green Heron Pond will be lit with pink uplights, illuminating the surrounding landscape. The hike will start at the Sensory Garden parking lot near the Ordway Picnic Shelter, where multiple bonfires will be staged to help warm chilly fingers and toes. Arboretum experts will be stationed near the bonfires from 8:30-9 p.m. to answer any questions you may have about your favorite early springtime blooms.
Check out our Spring Ephemerals handout from our Natural Resources Horticulturist, Annie Gunness, before you head out on the trail.
