Professional Photography Session Permit Guidelines

Read and agree to the following terms:

In addition to our Garden Rules & Etiquette:

  • Photography permits can be purchased in advance online or by calling 612-301-6775.  For a Photographer Membership, please call to membership dept Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at 612-301-1257.
  • Sessions should be held no longer than 2 hours.
  • Admission tickets are required for each person at the photo shoot. The permit grants admission only for the photographer.
  • Please reserve these tickets early to avoid being unable to gain admission to the gardens. Clients risk being denied entrance if we are sold out for that time frame.
  • Our gardens are open rain or shine and our permits are non-refundable but can be rescheduled. Please call 612-301-6775 to reschedule.
  • Avoid disruption of visitor and Arboretum activities. A permit or photographer membership does not give you exclusive right to an area in the garden.
  • All people, equipment and additional aspects of the photo shoot shall remain out of planted areas and water features. Please remain on designated paths, trails and lawns.
  • Do not collect, move, damage or deface plant life, historic items, or wildlife. Climbing trees, buildings, or wading in water features is not permitted.
  • No parking is permitted along roadways. Please use designated parking areas.
  • Hanging props on trees or buildings is prohibited at the Arboretum.
  • Pop-up changing tents may not be used in the gardens as they prevent the enjoyment of our gardens by others.
  • Pets are not allowed in the gardens; however, Arboretum members may have a photo shoot in the Dog Commons On-Leash Trails.
  • Balloons, confetti, glitter and other loose materials are not allowed.
  • Lighting equipment that requires cords and external power sources or outside props such as drop cloths, panels etc. cannot be used without prior permission.
  • Drone photography is not allowed at the Arboretum. Exceptions include media stations and operations/research personnel with prior approval.
  • All artwork on display at the Arboretum is subject to copyright and other intellectual property law. It is the responsibility of the photographer to secure appropriate permissions for the use of artwork in images. Permission to photograph at the Arboretum does not include permission to use images of copyrighted artwork and the Arboretum is unable to provide such permissions.
  • When permitted photographers arrive at the gate they will be given a sticker badge to wear while taking photos during their session. Please keep this sticker in a visible spot.
