Trip Itinerary
Thursday, Sept. 28: Arrival
The trip begins at the Philadelphia Airport, where a motor coach will pick you up to begin a week of touring in the Brandywine Creek Valley, spanning the Pennsylvania and Delaware state lines. Stop at the Mt. Cuba Center before checking into the hotel (Hampton Inn & Suites in Chadd’s Ford, PA) where you will stay for the duration of the trip. Dinner is included Thursday evening.
Friday, Sept. 29
See the estates and gardens of two grand homes built by members of the du Pont family: Nemours and Winterthur. You will also tour the Brandywine River Museum.
Saturday, Sept. 30
Starting at Chanticleer (from the French word for “rooster”), the collection of 12 gardens will delight your senses. Later, the John James Audubon Center, with its mission to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, offers prime opportunities for bird watching. You will also visit the Tyler Arboretum on Saturday.
Sunday, Oct. 1
In addition to a visiting Bartram's Garden and the Morris Arboretum, there will be free time to explore exhibits at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Monday, Oct. 2
Monday's focus will be Longwood Gardens, including their famous annual Chrysanthemum Festival. Your day will also include a visit to the University of Delaware Botanic Gardens, for a guided tour.
Tuesday, Oct. 3
Explore the National Park that represents the founding ideals of our country. After lunch at Historic Reading Terminal Market, a visit to the Museum of the American Revolution will complete a day concentrating on our nation’s history.
Wednesday, Oct. 4: Departure
Wednesday will return to a flora & fauna theme with visits to the Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College and the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum before departing for the Philadelphia Airport for your flight home.
