Winter Bird Photography (Online + In-Person)

Create amazing photos of birds this winter! With the techniques presented, you will be able to photograph birds on snow-covered branches, at the feeder, and in flight.

In the Thursday live webinar you will learn:

• Equipment needed for photographing birds
• Techniques for photographing birds in winter
• Insights into winter bird behavior
• How to capture birds in flight
• How to build a backyard bird photography studio

At the Saturday in-person Practicum:
Meeting location: Arboretum Eatery on the 2nd floor of the Visitor Center

Put what you’ve learned into practice at this exclusive opportunity to photograph birds at the Arboretum! Don will be with you to answer questions and offer tips throughout the class and small group size ensures sightlines to our feeders.

For the best experience, bring to class:

• DSLR, Mirrorless, or high quality “bridge” telephoto camera
• Your longest lens (ideally 300mm or longer)
• Clothing appropriate for the winter weather

Weather: This session will meet whether cloudy, sunny, or snowing! However, If temperatures are expected to drop below zero during the class period, refunds will be issued or the event may be rescheduled for Feb 17, 2024.

Required Equipment for the Live Webinar: Internet, Computer or Tablet, up-to-date Chrome, Firefox, or Safari Web browser, and downloaded Zoom  software (free).
