Photographing Flower Arrangements: Still Life Tabletop

Class Overview: 

Flowers have a way of helping us through the doldrums of winter with their vibrant colors and enchanting fragrances.  They also make for fantastic photography subjects.  The best part is that you do not need a lot of fancy lights, complicated sets, or expensive equipment to get amazing results. During this hands-on class, we will use a variety of lighting types (window light, inexpensive LED panels, and simple flashlights).  We will explore light direction, view angles, depth of field, close-up, detail, and environmental compositions and “stage” setting.  

In this class you will learn: 

• Working with available light
• Techniques for adding interest
• Dealing with glossy and shiny surfaces
• Managing white balance
• Adding interest using props and compositional techniques
• Creating interesting backdrops using everyday materials (including bubble wrap)
   

Suggested Equipment:

• DSLR or mirrorless camera
• Tripod
• Camera remote
• Lens with focal length range of 24 – 70mm
• Macro lens (optional)
