The Rainflower Project, created by local ceramic artist Damien Wolf, promotes positive mental health and suicide prevention. Wolf designed the art installation to honor people who have been affected by suicide, remember people who have died by suicide and acknowledge the survivors of suicide.
Wolf created 675 yellow, black and white ceramic flowers and installed them in the Arboretum’s Lilac Walk to represent the average number of people who die by suicide each year in Minnesota. Visitors to the Arboretum are invited to add to the exhibition by decorating a weather-proof green tag in honor of a loved one. Wolf hopes the art installation will provoke discussion about a topic that’s often hard to discuss. To learn more about suicide prevention, resources are available at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or Suicide Awareness Voices of Education.
